Pets: Cedar (dog)
Katie’s studies started out in marine biology, when she was caught up in a dream of living an aquatic life like Jacques Cousteau. While spending a semester during her undergraduate years in South Africa, Dr. Katie worked with a wildlife veterinarian who treated a variety of animals including giraffes, rhinos and buffalo. This amazing experience began her journey to veterinary medicine. Dr. Katie’s volunteer work at the Toronto Humane Society led to her working there, caring for small animals, observing surgeries and assisting a veterinarian in her fellowship research on feline upper respiratory infections. She attended University College Dublin in Ireland and completed her veterinary degree in 2017. Studying abroad also had the benefit of allowing her to connect with family there.
Upon completing her degree, Dr. Katie moved back to Canada and worked at small animal practices in both Hamilton and Toronto before joining the Watzin Veterinary Clinic team. Her main interests include preventative medicine and pain management. Dr. Katie cares greatly for her patients and strives to give them the very best care. When she is not at work, she is walking her dog Cedar, travelling, or going to listen to live music.
