What is euthanasia?
The term euthanasia, derived from the Greek language, means good death. If your pet is experiencing immeasurable pain or an illness has significantly decreased their quality of life, euthanasia can help them peacefully cross the rainbow bridge. We start by administering a sedative to put your pet at ease. We follow this with a seizure-inducing medication that will stop your pet’s heart and brain. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the procedure, please reach out to us at 905-690-0040.
When is the right time to euthanize my pet?
There isn’t a right time to perform the procedure because nothing can fully prepare you for the moment. The timing is based on what you and your family believe is the right decision for you and your pet. There are a few deciding factors that can help you determine if euthanasia is the best decision for your pet. Our team will review your pet’s medical history together as well as any observations you’ve made of your pet at home, providing any alternative treatments that could potentially support your pet’s health. If we’ve exhausted every option, we’ll recommend the procedure. However, you have the final say about what will best support your pet. If you move forward with the decision to euthanize, we’ll support you throughout the process, extending any resources or additional help you need as you grieve your pet.
